2012 Downtown Georgia photo contest

We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 Downtown Georgia photo contest. Judging was completed by a six-person panel that included:
- Dr. David Crass, Division Director, HPD
- Beth Gibson, Preservation Architect, HPD
- Mark C. McDonald, President and CEO, The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation
- Charlie Miller, Media & Communications Coordinator/Photographer, HPD
- Steven Moffson, Architectural Historian, HPD
- Steve Storey, Design Services Manager, Georgia Department of Community Affairs

After much consideration, here are the winners:

1st place
- Macon Terminal Station by Michael Williams -

2nd place (a three-way tie!)
- Calhoun GEM Theater by Sam Ratcliffe -
- Savannah Cotton Exchange by Sam Beetler II
- Lowndes County Courthouse in Valdosta by Gayle Bowman

Of the winning entry, contest judge Steve Storey wrote "The arcs of the water streams are quite striking and the starburst patterns of the lights add an interesting sharp-versus-soft contrast to that. The choice of black-and-white intensifies this effect. It might be lost in a color shot."

Many thanks to everyone who entered, as well as to our co-sponsors and judges! Stay tuned next year for an entirely new theme.
